“As a young child, I was a witness to my father’s good deeds. I recall him taking people off the streets and allowing them to shop in his grocery store for food and without payment. As a teenager, I was a witness to my father’s good deeds. I recall his words of encouragement and his unique and unwavering compassion. As a young adult, I was a witness to my father’s good deeds. I recall his loyalty to our family and his ongoing courage to persevere no matter what. And yet, all through the years, and before his death, I was a witness to my father’s good deeds. I recall many people around him ask, “Sam why are you so giving to others?” and his reply would be, “I am planting seeds for my children so that one day when they are in need, someone will be giving to them.”
